Can a central vacuum be installed in a home that is already built?
Yes, a central vacuum system can be installed in almost any existing home without any damage or costly modifications.
Can I install a central vacuum system myself?
Yes, we can sell you all of the necessary tubing and fittings to do it yourself or you can arrange for our trained installers to do it for you.
How does a central vacuum system work?
A simple system of 2" plastic tube are installed in the walls of your home which lead to a power unit that is typically located in the garage or utility room. The power unit is activated when a vacuum hose is plugged into one of the valves located in your home.
Does the power unit have to be vented outside?
It is recommended that you vent your power unit to prevent dust being re-circulated in the garage.
How many inlet valves are required in the average home?
A good rule of thumb is 700 sq ft per inlet valve using a 30' hose.
Why not put an inlet valve in every room?
You will increase both material and labor costs. Also, you would lose the convenience by having to unplug and reconnect your hose more than necessary.
Is the 30' hose heavy?
No, all hoses, both electrified and low voltage are made of high quality lightweight crushproof materials, to provide you with long life, durability and lightweight convenience.
What is the difference between electrified and low voltage hoses?
Electrified hoses have 110/120 volt wiring molded into them for use with electric powerheads. Low voltage hoses would be used with air driven powerheads or on straight air suction tools.
Do I need an electrician to connect my central vacuum system?
No. All central vacuum power units can be plugged into your normal house electrical outlet, but we recommend a dedicated circuit.
Can the central vacuum pick up water?
No. You should not pick up water or other wet substances with your system.
How high do I mount the inlet valves?
Inlet valves are typically installed at the same height as electrical receptacles.
Ironaway
Do they fit between the studs?
All models, except the NE-242, are designed to fit between standard 2x4 studs on 16" centers.
Can they be installed at any height?
All models can be installed at the height of your choice. Typical ironing board height is 34"-36. from the floor.
Are they difficult to install?
The product is very easy to install. It basically requires identifying the desired location, cutting and removing the drywall, slipping the unit between the studs and attaching it with the installation screws provided. All units are preassembled and ready to install.
Are the electrical models hard to wire?
Electrical models are pre-wired so they only need to be pigtailed with the incoming electrical wire. The pigtails are located at the bottom of the electrical raceway. All electrical work must be done in accordance with all applicable electrical codes. Electrical models utilize 15 amps.
If we don't order the swivel now, can we get it later?
The swivel is not a retrofit item. Since it utilizes more interior space due to its rugged undercarriage, the frame on a swivel cabinet is deeper than cabinets without swivels. For this reason, swivels must be ordered at the time of purchase and cannot be added later. Where applicable, all other options available on the ironing centers can be added after the original purchase.
Can we order it without a door?
A "no door "option is one of the available options. If selected, the unit will arrive without a door allowing you to match custom cabinetry. When this option is selected the piano hinge and hardware is not included with the unit. This is done so you can match hardware with your cabinetry.
Do the doors come prefinished?
All wood doors come unfinished so you can customize your unit to match the room décor. The interior has been painted a cool gray saving you hours of unnecessary finishing time.
What are the door dimensions?
The door dimensions for all models (except model A-46) are 15"Wx47 7/8" L. The model A-46 is 15"Wx60 5/8" L.
What are the rough in opening dimensions?
Rough in openings for all models (except model A-46) are 14 ¼"Wx47 1/8"Lx3 7/8"D. The model A-46 is 14 ¼"Wx59 7/8"Lx3 7/8"D.
Can the door be hinged on the left side?
Yes, all units may be ordered with a left hand hinge at no additional charge. All units come standard with a right hand hinge. (As you face the unit the hinge is on the right hand side of the cabinet.)
